The journey of Narcos

Narcos: The Board Game - FAQ

General & Setup

To begin your journey, you need the Core Game box. If you’ve purchased a Digital Expansion (PDF) from our Expansion Hub, you will also need the printed or digital version of that scenario to follow the new story arcs.

Fairytale is designed for 1 to 4 players. It features a dedicated Solo Mode where a single “Underdog Hero” faces the forest’s challenges with adjusted rules.

  • Fairytale Campaign: A full, branching narrative experience played over multiple sessions.
  • Story Chapter: A standalone session focusing on a specific part of the story.
  • Story Twist: Shorter, high-intensity scenarios with unique rule variations.

Players can choose between Zinon (Pug), Eliana (Cat), Christian (Hamster), or Hector (Gecko). Each has a unique Player Board and specific Talent that influences gameplay.

Gameplay Mechanisms

Action Cards are used during the Encounter Phase. You can play them to move, attack, or trigger special effects. Remember: once played, they go to your discard pile unless a special ability says otherwise.

These represent your Hero’s physical resources and health. When you take damage or perform certain heavy actions, you may have to remove them. If you lose all your components, your Hero is defeated.

When the story calls for a Challenge, you roll your designated Weapon Dice. You need to match the required number of “Success” symbols indicated by the scenario to pass.

Heroes can share supplies if they are in the same or adjacent groves, depending on the specific scenario rules. Collaborative planning is key to surviving the magical forest!

Combat & Encounters

At the start of each round, players decide the order in which Heroes act. Strategy is vital—sometimes the Gecko needs to move first to scout, while the Pug waits to defend.

Missing an attack doesn’t just mean no damage; some Enemies have “On Miss” abilities that trigger a counter-attack or a negative status effect on your Hero.

Talents are unique to each pet. They can be activated by spending specific dice results or meeting conditions listed on your Player Board. They often provide the “edge” needed to defeat a boss.

These are special orange dice used primarily in Solo Mode or when the party is at a disadvantage. They provide extra successes and can activate Hero Talents more easily.

Solo Play

The core rules remain the same, but the “Underdog Hero” starts with a larger hand (6 cards) and rolls more dice (4 Weapon and 4 Underdog Dice) to compensate for being alone.

If an enemy ability targets “all Heroes” or “multiple Heroes,” in Solo Mode, all those effects are concentrated on the single Underdog Hero, but they gain specific protection buffs to keep the balance fair.

Digital Expansions & PDF Content

Simply follow the “Setup” instructions in the PDF. It will tell you which map tiles to place and which enemy cards to pull from your core box to create the new adventure.

Our Expansion Hub features various difficulty levels. Some are “Entry Level” for families, while others are “Nightmare” difficulty for veteran players.
